Tinnitus is the name given to the perception of sound in the absence of an external sound source.
Tinnitus affects about 10-15% of the population in Ireland. For some people it can be temporary and for others it can be permanent. Often, tinnitus can come and go throughout life.
Tinnitus can have many potential causes. Some causes include hearing loss, noise exposure, impacted ear wax and some medications.
It is important to have a complete hearing assessment carried out to help identify a potential cause of the tinnitus. From there, our audiologists can help devise a management plan and onward referrals can be made if deemed necessary.
